'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of Swansea's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear after the post-goal scrum.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range strike from outside the box, and his teammate promptly converted the rebound before racing off toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory completed an incredible recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. In the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win booked a fourth-round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that range," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after the team changed shape. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It requires a tough attitude and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has rapidly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he reunited with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at lower division the Manchester club, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the last several matches, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

His single match for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was freezing," he recalls, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I felt I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a small coach driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself a teammate, another squad member, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to interact with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

During his time at Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on London's Central line after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
